Mariposa - Haiku Booklet
Objective
Creating a booklet based from a Japanese Haiku that communicates the meaning of the haiku with implied elements. Each of the pages should be able to stand on its own, however maintain and overall connection to the entire composition.
Final Spread
The final colors were chosen methodically, as they represented Latino culture, during Dia de los Muertos. Marigolds, the yellow, are normally placed upon graves as they are believed to guide a loved one/spirits that have departed back due to their smell and color. As for the purple, it's commonly associated with grief and mourning on this holiday and is found on ofrendas.
Meaning Behind the Haiku
The Haiku is about a Butterfly which signifies a soul that is guided by a flower-wreath. They follow this wreath to the final burial grounds of a loved one.

Sketching and Ideation
Explored various directions to take by doing sketches of what the potential design could be alongside layout. Took a more literal approach at first, but will later shift to a more nonliteral route, shown below.

Solidifying a solid base concept for the booklet that communicates the essential concepts, while still being engaging visually to the audience. Alongside Finalized colors.
